ANGUS INTELLIGENCE® – AI DATA USE AND NO-TRAINING NOTICE
Effective Date: September 19, 2026
Last Updated: September 19, 2026
This AI Data Use and No-Training Notice explains how Angus Intelligence, LLC (“Angus,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) processes Customer Data in connection with Angus4Law™, the Functional Intelligence™ Layer, Angus Station™, and related Angus software, services, websites, APIs, and features (collectively, the “Platform”).
This Notice applies to Customer Data processed through the Platform. It supplements the Angus Privacy Policy, applicable Terms of Service, Data Processing Addendum, order form, and any separately negotiated agreement. If a signed agreement with a customer conflicts with this Notice, the signed agreement controls to the extent of the conflict.
1. Our Core Commitment: No Training on Customer Data
Angus does not use Customer Data to train, fine-tune, evaluate, benchmark, or improve:
- Angus models;
- shared or general-purpose artificial-intelligence models;
- models made available to other customers;
- shared evaluation or benchmark datasets; or
- generalized product-learning datasets.
Angus also does not use Customer Data for:
- public demonstrations;
- marketing materials;
- public examples;
- employee training;
- product demonstrations;
- shared quality-evaluation datasets; or
- unrelated product development,
unless Angus obtains the Customer’s express written authorization for that specific use.
For purposes of this Notice, “Customer Data” includes Matter Data, uploaded materials, extracted text, prompts, case context, Case Memory, Custom AI Modes, drafts, research results, facts, timelines, evidence records, reports, Outputs, and other data submitted to, stored in, or generated through the Platform for a Customer.
2. What Angus Uses Customer Data For
Angus processes Customer Data only as necessary to provide, secure, support, operate, maintain, and improve the reliability of the Platform for the applicable Customer.
Depending on the features used, this may include processing Customer Data to:
- receive and authenticate user requests;
- store and organize matter-associated content;
- extract text and metadata from uploaded files;
- create, store, retrieve, edit, or delete Case Memory;
- retrieve authorized matter context for a user-requested workflow;
- generate drafts, analyses, summaries, timelines, evidence reports, citation work, writing feedback, and other Outputs;
- operate Custom AI Modes and other authorized workflow configurations;
- integrate with customer-authorized legal research sources;
- track token usage, workflow activity, plan limits, and matter-level usage reports;
- provide customer-requested support or troubleshooting;
- investigate security events, fraud, abuse, or suspected violations of applicable agreements;
- comply with applicable law, legal process, or enforceable governmental requests; and
- maintain limited billing, accounting, audit, security, and legal-compliance records.
Angus does not use Customer Data to train a general model or to provide another customer with access to Customer Data.
3. How AI-Enabled Workflows Process Data
Angus4Law is designed to support persistent, matter-aware legal workflows. The Platform may process and associate information with a particular matter, user, workflow, or authorized environment.
When a user requests an AI-enabled function—such as document analysis, legal drafting, writing review, evidence extraction, timeline development, research workflow support, or case analysis—the Platform may process information including:
- the user’s prompt or instruction;
- selected excerpts from extracted document text;
- facts, timelines, evidence items, citations, or research results;
- relevant Case Memory;
- prior drafts, reports, or Outputs;
- Custom AI Mode instructions;
- user or matter workflow settings; and
- other context selected as relevant to the requested task.
Angus uses retrieval, ranking, authorization, and context-selection processes intended to identify and provide the information reasonably needed for the requested workflow. External AI providers do not receive direct access to the entire Angus4Law database or an unrestricted corpus of Customer materials merely because a user invokes an AI feature.
The information included in a particular request depends on the task, the active matter context, the user’s instructions, the selected feature, applicable permissions, and the Platform configuration.
4. Authorized AI Service Providers
Angus currently uses commercial/API services offered by:
- OpenAI; and
- Anthropic.
These providers may process Customer Data submitted through an AI-enabled workflow solely to provide the requested inference or related service functionality, subject to Angus’s account configuration and the providers’ applicable commercial/API terms.
Under the applicable commercial/API terms for these providers, customer/API inputs and outputs are not used to train the providers’ generally available models by default.
However, Angus does not currently represent that Zero Data Retention (“ZDR”) is enabled for all AI-provider processing. OpenAI and Anthropic may retain API inputs and outputs for a limited period under their applicable commercial-service, security, abuse-monitoring, safety, and retention practices. Angus does not control all aspects of an external provider’s retention or operational processing.
Accordingly, Angus does not promise that:
- external AI providers retain no data;
- external AI providers have zero-day retention;
- no external provider personnel can ever access data for security, abuse-prevention, or legal-compliance purposes;
- all AI inference occurs only in the United States; or
- Customer Data never leaves Angus-controlled infrastructure when a Customer uses a cloud AI-enabled feature.
Angus reviews authorized providers and seeks to use commercial/API configurations that support the data-use commitments described in this Notice.
5. Case Memory and Persistent Matter Context
Angus4Law may maintain persistent matter-associated context, called “Case Memory,” to support later authorized work within the same matter.
Case Memory may include, depending on the feature and user action:
- extracted document content;
- matter facts;
- timeline information;
- evidence-related information;
- prior analyses;
- conversation-derived information;
- corrections;
- user-saved context;
- matter-specific workflow records; and
- other information created or saved through authorized Platform workflows.
Case Memory may be stored with associated retrieval metadata, including embeddings or vector representations used to retrieve relevant records during later workflows.
Available Platform controls allow authorized users to:
- view individual Case Memory entries;
- edit stored memory text;
- submit corrections to AI-generated memory;
- delete individual memory entries and associated vectors;
- exclude an entry from future retrieval while retaining it for review or editing;
- disable automatic memory creation on a per-matter basis; and
- export Case Memory records in JSON or CSV format, excluding vectors.
Angus does not use a Customer’s Case Memory to train shared or general-purpose models.
6. Custom AI Modes and Customer Configurations
Customers may create or use Custom AI Modes, reasoning configurations, workflow instructions, or similar customer-controlled configurations.
When a Custom AI Mode is invoked, its applicable instructions may be included in the AI-enabled workflow request and transmitted to an authorized AI service provider as necessary to generate the requested result.
Custom AI Modes are Customer Data to the extent they are created or supplied by a Customer. Angus does not use customer-created Custom AI Modes to train shared models, create shared datasets, or provide another customer with access to the Customer’s mode content.
7. Customer-Authorized Legal Research Sources
Angus4Law does not provide, sublicense, or represent that it owns a legal-research database or licensed legal content library.
Where Angus4Law supports a legal-research workflow, a Customer may provide its own authorized credentials, API access, subscription, or rights for a supported third-party legal-research provider. The Customer remains responsible for:
- maintaining the underlying provider subscription and credentials;
- ensuring that the Customer is authorized to connect the source to Angus4Law;
- complying with the provider’s terms, content restrictions, and API requirements;
- ensuring that any use, storage, retrieval, display, analysis, export, or citation of source content is permitted; and
- complying with applicable professional, legal, and contractual obligations.
Plan-based research-workflow limits govern Angus4Law workflow capacity. They do not grant a Customer rights in any third-party research content or expand the Customer’s rights under a third-party provider agreement.
8. Original Source Files and Extracted Text
In the ordinary document-upload workflow, Angus4Law may extract and process text from an uploaded source file without retaining the original uploaded source file.
The Platform may store extracted text, document metadata, page or Bates-range information where available, document chunks, matter context, and related workflow records. The Platform may also retain generated reports or other work-product files created through the Platform.
Customers must maintain their own authoritative copies of original source files, including native documents, PDFs, evidence, records, and materials subject to preservation obligations.
Angus4Law is not a substitute for:
- an evidentiary repository;
- a legal-hold system;
- a chain-of-custody system;
- a native-file preservation system;
- an electronic-discovery preservation platform; or
- a records-retention system.
Text extraction may be incomplete or inaccurate, particularly for scanned documents, handwriting, image-based files, tables, formatting-dependent content, embedded objects, metadata, or non-text materials. Customers must independently review and verify extracted information and Outputs.
9. Matter Deletion and Retained Records
When an authorized user deletes a matter through available Platform controls, Angus permanently deletes active matter content associated with that matter from the Platform’s active environment. This may include:
- extracted document text and related document records;
- Case Memory, associated embeddings, and vectors;
- matter reports;
- chats and matter-associated transcripts;
- drafts, draft sections, and related drafting conversations;
- citations;
- evidence, timeline, and discovery-workflow records;
- matter-associated Custom AI Mode relationships; and
- related matter workflow data.
Matter deletion is designed to occur as a transactional process. If the deletion process fails, the Platform is designed to preserve the matter rather than leave it in a partial deletion state.
Angus may retain limited records associated with a deleted matter where necessary for:
- billing and accounting;
- usage reconciliation;
- prior invoice review;
- fraud prevention;
- security;
- audit;
- legal compliance;
- dispute resolution; or
- enforcement of applicable agreements.
Examples may include token-usage records, billing-period records, rate configurations, invoice-reconciliation records, financial records, and security or audit logs. These retained records are not maintained as active matter content.
Certain user-level reasoning preferences or separately maintained cross-matter learning records may also remain available outside a deleted matter. Angus is designing those records to exclude matter documents and conversation content. Customers should review and delete separately stored user-level configurations or learning records that they no longer wish to retain.
10. Angus Personnel Access
Angus restricts personnel access to Customer Data. Authorized Angus personnel may access Customer Data only when reasonably necessary to:
- respond to a Customer’s support request;
- investigate, contain, or remediate a security incident;
- maintain, troubleshoot, or repair the Platform;
- comply with applicable law, legal process, or enforceable governmental requests;
- enforce applicable agreements or prevent misuse; or
- carry out another activity expressly authorized by the Customer.
Angus personnel are not authorized to use Customer Data for unrelated model training, marketing, public demonstrations, or product examples.
11. Customer Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for determining whether they are authorized to submit Customer Data to the Platform and to authorize Angus and its approved service providers to process that data as described in this Notice.
Customers must evaluate their own obligations relating to:
- confidentiality;
- attorney-client privilege;
- work-product protection;
- court orders;
- protective orders;
- client consent;
- professional-responsibility rules;
- legal holds;
- records retention;
- privacy laws;
- data-transfer restrictions;
- third-party legal-research provider terms; and
- other contractual, legal, or regulatory requirements.
Customers must not use the Platform to submit payment-card data, classified information, controlled government information, export-controlled information, or protected health information unless Angus has expressly agreed in writing to support the relevant data category and any required agreement, such as a Business Associate Agreement.
12. Data Location and International Access
Angus is based in the United States.
As of the Effective Date of this Notice:
- Angus production services and database infrastructure are deployed in California, United States;
- Angus server-side Vercel functions are deployed in Washington, D.C., United States; and
- public website content may be delivered through globally distributed content-delivery infrastructure.
Customers may access the Platform from outside the United States. In addition, authorized subprocessors, including AI service providers, may process Customer Data in locations determined by their applicable service configuration and terms.
By using the Platform from outside the United States or submitting personal information concerning individuals outside the United States, Customers acknowledge that Customer Data may be transferred to, processed in, and stored in the United States and other locations in which Angus or its authorized service providers operate, subject to applicable agreements and law.
13. Security and Retention
Angus uses TLS encryption for data transmitted between browsers, the Platform, internal services, databases, and authorized AI service providers.
Customer Data is stored in managed infrastructure. Angus does not currently represent that it applies independent application-level encryption to all stored Customer content. Storage-layer encryption and backup encryption, where provided, are managed by the applicable infrastructure provider.
Customer Data may remain available for up to ninety (90) days after account cancellation or termination to permit retrieval, export, or customer-directed deletion, subject to the applicable subscription terms. Backup copies may remain for up to ninety (90) additional days under the applicable backup lifecycle.
Angus may retain limited billing, financial, audit, security, legal-compliance, and dispute-resolution records for longer periods where reasonably necessary or legally required.
For further information, see the Angus Security & Compliance Overview and Privacy Policy.
